Northam Detention Centre
The Australian Government announced the establishment of an immigration detention centre at the Department of Defence Northam Training Camp in October 2010. It will be important for Wheatbelt communities to capture the positive financial and social benefits arising including economic boosts, increased employment opportunities, contracting and tender opportunities, and departmental and detention service provider staff joining local sporting and cultural groups.
The Wheatbelt Development Commission, Avon Community Development Foundation and the Northam Chamber of Commerce plan to keep the Avon subregion and the wider Wheatbelt area up-to-date with relevant information regarding the Northam Detention Centre and associated local business opportunities.
