$87.5 million project launched

An exciting milestone was reached on the 19 February 2020 for the Wheatbelt Secondary Freight Network Project (WSFN). 

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack and WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti MLA were joined by Federal and State parliamentary colleagues, WSFN Steering Committee members, State and Local Government representatives to officially launch the first roadworks of the program. 

The first works comprise of 2.75 kilometres of improvements on the Mogumber – Yarawindah Road in the Shire of Victoria Plains. 

The $87.5 million Wheatbelt Secondary Freight Network program is jointly funded, with the Australian Government committing $70 million through its Roads of Strategic Importance initiative, the Western Australian Government committing $11.67 million and local government bodies providing the remainder.

The Wheatbelt Development Commission respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands that we live and work on: the family and clan groups of the Ballardong, Goreng, Gubrun, Kalamaia, Njaki-Njaki, Whadjuk, Wiilman, Wudjari, Yued and Yamatji People of the Noongar Nation, their Elders past present and emerging.
