About the Wheatbelt Development Commission

At the Wheatbelt Development Commission, we are dedicated to fostering the long-term growth and prosperity of the Wheatbelt region. Our mission is to make the Wheatbelt a preferred destination for living, working, and investing.

Through strategic initiatives and partnerships, we strive to enhance the quality of life and economic opportunities for all residents and businesses in our community.

Our Purpose

We facilitate long term development of the Wheatbelt by being a forward-thinking regional development agency. We are committed to connecting government and the private sector to create practical solutions for our region.

The Wheatbelt Development Commission does this by:

Advocating for forward-thinking infrastructure solutions to grow the Wheatbelt’s economy.

Championing new economic opportunities for our region that will diversify the economic base and supporting investment that adds long term value to our business sectors and communities.

Recognising the impact of changing climate conditions to the region’s communities, businesses and landscapes and supporting development opportunities that create sustainable communities.

Facilitating future-focused economic opportunities to support local entrepreneurs, business leaders and key industries.

Demonstrating our commitment to sound governance, diversity and inclusion and using our regional leadership to attract investment and facilitate economic development.

The Wheatbelt Development Commission is responsible to the Hon. Don Punch Minister for Regional Development. Under the Regional Development Commissions Act 1993, the objects and functions of the Commission are to:

Maximise job creation and improve career opportunities in the Region

Develop and broaden the economic base of the Region

Identify infrastructure services to promote business development within the Region

Provide information and advice to promote business development within the Region

Seek to ensure that the general standard of government services and access to those services in the Region is comparable to that which applies in the metropolitan area

Generally take steps to encourage, promote, facilitate and monitor the economic development of the Region.

Meet Our Board

The Wheatbelt Development Commission is governed by a diverse board comprising two ministerial appointees, two community representatives, and two local government members. Alongside our CEO, the board steers the strategic direction of the Commission, ensuring we effectively serve the Wheatbelt region.

Meet The Team

The Wheatbelt Development Commission (WDC) operates across four regional centers: Northam, Narrogin, Moora, and Merredin. Our head office is located in Northam, where the majority of our dedicated staff are based.

Acknowledgement of Country

The Wheatbelt Development Commission respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands that we live and work on: the family and clan groups of the Ballardong, Goreng, Gubrun, Kalamaia, Njaki-Njaki, Whadjuk, Wiilman, Wudjari, Yued and Yamatji People of the Noongar Nation, their Elders past present and emerging.
